

Professor of contemporary dance at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP) from 1989 to 2008, and at the Paris Opera from 1985 to 2008. Professor at the Merce Cunningham Dance School in New York from 1979 to 1984. Assistant director and in charge of choreographic studies at the Choreographic Research Group of the Paris Opera (GRCOP) from 1985 to 1989. Guest teacher for dance companies and many festivals in Europe and many universities in the United States: for the companies of Angelin Preljocaj, Anne Teresa DeKeersmaeker, Hofesh Shechter, DV8, Jean-Claude Gallotta, Dominique Bagouet, and the Australian Dance Theater; at Bard College and Hunter College in New York, the University of California in Santa Barbara, New York University, the Laban Dance Center and The Place in London, The Dance Place in Washington, DC, the Long Beach Summer School of Dance in California State University in Long Beach, the American Center in Paris. Resident of Santa Barbara, California since 2008 where she teaches permanently. Based on the Cunningham technique, the work in the technical courses includes sequences and movements in space, a sense of weight, balance and imbalance, and varied rhythmic structures as well as work on suspension, release and breathing, placement and knowledge of the body. Ms. Alexander's workshops aim to explore the principles and tools of choreography, including improvisation, to allow dancers to get out of their usual movements.
