Aunis, created on November 23, 1979 at the Maison de la culture in La Rochelle by the Théâtre du Silence, is first and foremost a solo, performed by Jacques Garnier himself. The word "Aunis" designates a territory located between Poitou in the North and Saintonge in the South, delimited as a province in the 13th century. Maurice Pacher's musical composition, written for two accordions, one chromatic, the other diatonic (with more "traditional" sounds), borrows from different tunes of regional "folklore" and draws from the many "popular" dances widespread in the Poitou of yesteryear. Jacques Garnier's project, which is to create a piece on music played by this instrument, is inspired by it for the development of gestures and anchors the choreography in a "traditional" universe.

In 1980, a version for three performers was created. Then, the piece entered the GRCOP repertoire in 1981, it was performed by Jean-Hugues Tanto, Jean Claude Ciappara, Renaud Fauviau, Jean Christphe Paré, Serge Daubrac, Bruno Lehaut, Jean Guizerix, Michaël Denard, Jean Pierre Franchetti before a new version of the work is adapted for Kader Belarbi, Jean-Claude Ciappara, and Wilfried Romoli, during the Biennale de Lyon in 1988.
